Product Development & Sampling

A production run is only as good as the sample it was approved against. Most “the bulk order didn’t match the sample” complaints actually trace back to a step before that — a sample that was approved without a written tech pack behind it, so “close enough” became the standard nobody agreed to in writing.

From Sketch To Sample

You do not need a finished tech pack to start. A sketch, a reference garment you already like, or even a rough description of what you want is enough to begin. What we build from there:

A written tech pack

A written tech pack, so measurements, construction details, and finish are on paper, not just understood verbally

Proto sample

Fit sample

Why Sampling Takes The Time It Does

Average sampling turnaround runs 10 to 15 days. That is not padding — it’s the time needed to source fabric, cut and sew a proto, get your feedback, and revise before a pre-production sample is worth approving. Rushing this stage is exactly where “the bulk shipment didn’t match the sample” problems start.

Private Label Development

For private label clothing sourcing specifically, product development also includes where your branding physically goes — woven labels, neck prints, hang tags, and packaging — developed alongside the garment sample rather than added as an afterthought once production is already underway. See Private Label & Low-MOQ for how branding and minimums work together.

FAQ

Typically three: a proto sample, a fit sample, and a final pre-production sample. Complex garments or new fabric combinations sometimes need an extra round — that’s normal and worth doing rather than skipping.

Yes. A tech pack gets built as part of the process rather than being a prerequisite to start.
